LOVE! LOVE our new products sent to us from Carolina Pads "Fundanoodle". We were so excited to get the box in the mail and Dodson had a blast tearing into his package of learning fun! Little did he know that the boxes were full of valuable lessons! Carolina Pad has done a fantastic job developing an educational pre-writing learning system which is fantastic for parents, teachers AND kids! Pediatric occupational therapists developed it after years of clinical experience, and apparently these ladies aren't just book smart, they know lots about F-U-N, too!<br />
Their systems are broken down by age group, and each group focuses on skills necessary and developmentally appropriate for that specific group. Since Dodson is 4, we received Pre-K products. They also offer kits that are targeted to 3 year olds, as well as Kindergarten and First Grades. The company is so great because they even have an education <a href="http://fundanoodle.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">blog</a> and <a href="http://www.youtube.com/fundanoodlelearning" target="_blank">youtube videos</a> on how best to use their products, and why the skills are so important to acquire.<br />
Their <a href="http://www.fundanoodle.com/" target="_blank">website</a> lists the key benefits of a fundanoodle system as:<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">"- Helps with fine and gross motor coordination.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Improves strength, control, and endurance with writing tools.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Promotes correct top to bottom formation of strokes.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Uses fun action terms like buzz around and zip down to teach your child proper lower and upper case </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"> letter formation.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Encourages touch and visual exploration.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Promotes problem solving, discovery, and self-esteem.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"> </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Encourages self expression and creativity.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Challenges and rewards kids with a sticker-based reward system, keeping your child eager to keep</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"> learning.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Gives parents tips for helping kids develop proper posture, paper stabilization, and pencil grasp techniques.</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"> "</span><br />

We started with the Fundanoodle Muscle Movers, which can be found <a href="http://carolinapadstore.com/fundanoodle-upper-case-muscle-movers.aspx" target="_blank">HERE</a>. These awesome cards promote:<br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Manual dexterity</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Motor planning</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Visual perceptual skills</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Social skills</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Balance and coordination</span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;"><br /></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">- Letter sequencing </span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #4f4f4f; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: 12px; line-height: 18px;">Guess what? They are also so much fun! We lined them up in order, first. Then my son picked a letter, flipped it over, sounded out the words or used deductive reasoning skills to decipher what action he was to take, and then did that action! His favorites were to "squeeze like an octopus" and to "waddle like a penguin". After taking action, he would sit back down and trace the letters using the dry erase pen. The cards were thick and great quality, as well. Each letter has the green guideline at the top and the red guideline at the bottom for reading and writing readiness. </span></span><br />

The ring that holds each of the cards together, also promotes dexterity and works those fine motor skills, as it took work to open and close the toggle, and place each card on the ring. He really enjoyed keeping them in order and organized. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Our sets included a couple of different writing tablets, including "I can write upper case" "I can write numbers" and "max and alphie's adventures: activity book 2 (his favorite)". The skills are fun and appropriate. Each of these workbooks has a great reward sticker system. The stickers match the specific activity completed, which he liked. The rewards gave him the motivation to do the work. Even the reward system builds fine motor skills, by exercising the pincher grasp.</div>

Children cannot read until they can recognize and form the letters themselves, so these skills are critical! Fundanoodle takes care of all of the needed skills, delivers a big punch of fun, AND is very reasonably priced. Thanks Fundanoodle for letting Pajama Projects in on the FUN! </span></span><br />

Good ole' Dr. Seuss! Happy Birthday! We decided to honor this years birthday by playing a<u> Ten Apples Up on Top</u> game! <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF8KXSMLW2WC7J1q4s22IhT2LPCw5BCBK-LH2cbDvuOZs04AeykFKhWwPaPheWDlCvFsj7SVNM5g0Dr66jRcjzG1Fpp_o58ujw_0zej-sg2S_vOKJyzS2QXc4XEDy7QkypEiTV1uUu3JOb/s1600/images-1.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF8KXSMLW2WC7J1q4s22IhT2LPCw5BCBK-LH2cbDvuOZs04AeykFKhWwPaPheWDlCvFsj7SVNM5g0Dr66jRcjzG1Fpp_o58ujw_0zej-sg2S_vOKJyzS2QXc4XEDy7QkypEiTV1uUu3JOb/s1600/images-1.jpeg" /></a></div>
<br />
We love this book obviously because it is a super fun read, but also because it includes both early reading skills as well as math skills. You can find rhyming, popper words, cadence, adding, subtracting, and so much more in this book! <br />
We started by reading the book, discussing who has "more" apples, who has the "least", how many more apples they needed to get to ten, how many they had "all together", and rhyming words. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The activity was a game that involved things we could do with our apples (these were fake apples, but you could surely use real ones). We started off counting them, then trying to "balance" them on our heads in a bucket. <br />

We would then try tricks, like the characters in the books did... I can run with 4 apples, I can slide with 10, I can make 10 apples fall on the ground (this was his favorite)! <br />

We had a good bit of fun to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday! We hope you did something special to mark the occasion! Who possibly makes reading more fun than Seuss!? <br />

We were playing with Dinos the other day, when D. discovered that if he put an object under the lampshade, with the light on it would create a shadow/profile of what he was holding. He ran and got me and asked me to play a game with him. I jumped on the chance to talk to him about light, and a bit about how shadows are caused. Due to his love of the solar system, we were able to also delve into a discussion about eclipses just a little bit, too! <br />
<div>
He was having so much fun "hiding" the figurine for me, and have me "guess" which dinosaur was being shy... </div>
<div>
It is a simple, quick little fun game that can really help a child learn about shadows, profiles, light and opacity vs. transparency. Go on... guess and see if YOU can guess what dinosaur is lurking in the shadows...</div>

He has had obsessions before... dinosaurs, trains, cars, the solar system, well, now, it is all about the Ocean and all that dwells beneath! I'm a science teacher at heart, so I love when his interests fall in line with mine! <br />
The Ocotnauts is a Disney UK program, and it has recently been picked up in the USA. It comes on 11:30E. I like this show because it really is educational. My son can watch an episode and truly pick up facts, but better than that, it has really sparked his desire to learn more about the ocean. So, we cannot seem to find the toys, and he really wants to "play" Octonauts, so we have created our own (pretty pathetic, i must warn) Octopod. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWcQPp6zkYFTaSJ4X9xA43NG6vb0A-GRZyF80oFKBuVOc2iFjQTi7nHLv0kUFGR1fbOYbkxmnZrRj2eNEZQcd5fFTB6FV4Gz5F28USZmgo2Kt6niH8iX32U6RcKbQ2dY4Q8Y4MyQKDiZ0D/s1600/images.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhWcQPp6zkYFTaSJ4X9xA43NG6vb0A-GRZyF80oFKBuVOc2iFjQTi7nHLv0kUFGR1fbOYbkxmnZrRj2eNEZQcd5fFTB6FV4Gz5F28USZmgo2Kt6niH8iX32U6RcKbQ2dY4Q8Y4MyQKDiZ0D/s1600/images.jpeg" /></a></div>
Here is a picture of "the" Octopod, as it is on the show (no source, sorry, I just googled "octopod") <span id="goog_995832785"></span><span id="goog_995832786"></span><br />

We used tupperware, orange construction paper, paper towel rolls, and packing tape. Seriously, I was not picky about the looks of this thing, and it was TOTALLY THROWN TOGETHER. I had no real "planning" time, so, she's pretty shabby. I might attempt to do something better if the prices don't come down on them. I may work on it a bit more, so their might be a "part two" to this post, if I get a creative burst!<br />

I know... kinda lame. Now that I see the pictures, I'm a bit ashamed of it, and might have to get working on it again. :)<br />

<br />
Sorry for the lag in posts... AGAIN... my new little one is giving me quite the time, and i spend most of my days holding her, which makes most things nearly impossible. We are kind of in a dirty-laundry-dirty-dishes-house-and-mommy-are-a-wreck sort of state around here. She has learned to spit out her reflux medication and has chronic GI issues. We finally went to the GI specialist, who confirmed all we thought- one of those kids with a tough system...<br />
ANYWAY... I got them both outside recently (its been in the high 60s, low 70s some days) and we used sidewalk chalk to mix up our ABCs. My son is in the early reading stage and is doing great with 3 letter words, and is ready to step it up a bit. For this game, I would say a word "log" and he would find each letter and hop on it, spelling the word. After he landed on the third letter he would spell the whole word aloud. Simple, Quick, Outside and EFFECTIVE. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFI84Y7gS6YT-iK7Dhbc0-fXj2WIZJkacKRjlwKAt0nTFMut4AQqOZ_eMULCFsCuIVhSIaAXHeEREr6ctybEQskYKhdJuGbnWhuBF3EhALA5dPAfOWuNPQa_H2zPc9F84h5UQnDPOkc3Rm/s1600/IMG_2830.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFI84Y7gS6YT-iK7Dhbc0-fXj2WIZJkacKRjlwKAt0nTFMut4AQqOZ_eMULCFsCuIVhSIaAXHeEREr6ctybEQskYKhdJuGbnWhuBF3EhALA5dPAfOWuNPQa_H2zPc9F84h5UQnDPOkc3Rm/s320/IMG_2830.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
adapt: for those learning to recgonize ABCs, simply call out the letter<br />
for those learning letter sounds, simply make the sound<br />
for those learning sentence structure, you could write out certain punctuation marks, say a sentence and have them jump to the appropriate mark that fits.<br />
<br />
Have fun!<br />

He is sounding out every word he sees and is excited to decipher text he finds around him throughout his day. When a child shows the interest, it is time to jump! I assure you there will be many, many mistakes, on the part of the child, and the parent during this learning phase. The child should really feel comfortable to make mistakes, and to learn through trial and error. English is very difficult! Imagine how hard it must be for a child who learns that a letter makes a certain sound only to find out, well... <i>it does</i>... only if it doesn't fall after this letter, or at the end of a word, or by a vowel... there are so many "buts" and "ifs" that it is overwhelming to teach, much less to learn! When learning to sound out words and taking those first steps into reading, tread lightly, and allow the child to set the tone. It is best to use positive reinforcement, and to really clue into the child's signs of frustration. If the child becomes the slightest bit frustrated, its time to go do something else. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I decided to try to do something fun to support his interest with his very favorite subject... Cars, the movie. I wanted him to be in charge of this pajama project, and rather than assign popper words, or site words, or a specific blend, I just let him work on words he is interested in, and wants to write, even if they are not quite "on level". No pressure here to learn, just to have fun!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">We began by printing out pictures we found on google images... for D. it was cars, but it could be all the princesses for a girl, or whatever the child is "into". </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMjeHjpPKL0xWHOd5zhfjypkgK5JlBjzn_3PIi7Qqe2w6VoeiH0ZD4fJaAnAqQqglBZh7nHpmKxnHl4dBmHzzFuN7EyGkwlpHYMRZbf1dyz6o5YJi5M8i0jV0pm2p3JhpjL2sjNHxdiwiO/s1600/DSC_0173.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMjeHjpPKL0xWHOd5zhfjypkgK5JlBjzn_3PIi7Qqe2w6VoeiH0ZD4fJaAnAqQqglBZh7nHpmKxnHl4dBmHzzFuN7EyGkwlpHYMRZbf1dyz6o5YJi5M8i0jV0pm2p3JhpjL2sjNHxdiwiO/s320/DSC_0173.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Then we cut them out, and before moving into flash card mode, we played with the cars a bit, sorting them first by color, then by type, (fast, small, 4x4s...). He had some really great adjectives and logical words to go with each. As I would write the word, I would pretend I couldn't figure out how to spell it, allowing him to do the work, without the pressure. I also was modeling the difficulty encountered when reading and spelling, "f-l-i, fly! wait, that isn't right, humm... what other letter makes the "i" sound, oh yeah, "Y"? wow, this is crazy... why are there two letters that make the same sound?!? (We would both laugh). He thought it was so funny that I couldn't remember and needed his help. <br />
He is actually playing with these cards, and is really making the associations between the words and the cars that he knows and loves. It was easy to just mention the blends we encountered along the way, without drilling the concepts. There is plenty of time for subtle exposure, which will solidify these skills over time. So... when your child shows the interest in reading... JUMP, but not too high, and don't run too fast! If you do, someone could get hurt! :)jennykramerphotographyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14278706098979880527noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-988000202197034702.post-42203260546774656362011-12-02T08:54:00.000-08:002011-12-02T08:54:35.502-08:00Advent- better late than never<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiotk-y9oaimZCHGYTFwW0wmODLa0-EVqLr0bKsrbtnvzm0JGMH_CoYC7o8dByMjMxRyQaIlSZifyqOWOJESID9e0JDvjNfbaM8MmyFE-19nGQcjdTvQ1t656MKIdBeRuhm-_PiVQuzzHSf/s1600/DSC_0003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiotk-y9oaimZCHGYTFwW0wmODLa0-EVqLr0bKsrbtnvzm0JGMH_CoYC7o8dByMjMxRyQaIlSZifyqOWOJESID9e0JDvjNfbaM8MmyFE-19nGQcjdTvQ1t656MKIdBeRuhm-_PiVQuzzHSf/s320/DSC_0003.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><br />
So, I am <b style="font-style: italic;">slightly </b>late in posting this.... but its better late than never. You probably are already in full swing, but maybe you can still take some ideas from this. This year we are adopting the popular "activity advent calendar" where you do daily activities rather than getting a present. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJjsAv5iUgxT2dNSCEB5gDWdUV-K9M7GFWuD0cBmNNdkNHUM8dLTvpqYGhQJXYp2ErZwyUFk4mPB6mtq6knef7097y4v2PJCPs5xqQtoVfCSSuqx_0-cZpXd65hPjrRnq2UdONXDZxXnxw/s1600/DSC_0002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJjsAv5iUgxT2dNSCEB5gDWdUV-K9M7GFWuD0cBmNNdkNHUM8dLTvpqYGhQJXYp2ErZwyUFk4mPB6mtq6knef7097y4v2PJCPs5xqQtoVfCSSuqx_0-cZpXd65hPjrRnq2UdONXDZxXnxw/s320/DSC_0002.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><br />
We are trying to make the experience educational in many aspects... some character education (sharing, giving, selflessness) Christian education about Jesus' birth, some reading (trying to decode words on the activity cards), and some math (adding and subtracting to get to the number of the day, calendar math, counting up and down, using Christmas tree manipulatives to explore numbers). I printed out Christmas tree clip art, and cut them apart.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4xmOmIuTG-9aJQ7UlXbSwM-CEwXsj-UEgPP1VcPHppESUXsUrqqJ1Lu4ZE0Lf-scfq-zTzPrrtaeyyp2C0eqouYIeP44RxccAQi8WjD038X4vDQhbPU4ttZ-Q52fQEQZ_ytftzctOYiq1/s1600/DSC_0004.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4xmOmIuTG-9aJQ7UlXbSwM-CEwXsj-UEgPP1VcPHppESUXsUrqqJ1Lu4ZE0Lf-scfq-zTzPrrtaeyyp2C0eqouYIeP44RxccAQi8WjD038X4vDQhbPU4ttZ-Q52fQEQZ_ytftzctOYiq1/s320/DSC_0004.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Each day we manipulate the trees to get the date for the day. For example, if today is the 16th, and we are going to pocket 16 on our Advent calendar, then we count out 16 Christmas trees, and then play with them. Take away 6 trees, how many are left? Add back 6 trees, and how many are all together?<br />
I have seen many activities on pintrest, and loved getting fun activities from there, and from other blogs, such as <a href="http://www.teachmama.com/">www.teachmama.com</a>, <a href="http://catholicmom.com/advent_kids.htm">http://catholicmom.com</a> and <a href="http://www.teachingmom.com/features/advent.html">http://www.teachingmom.com</a> .<br />
We are also using a book called <u>My First Countdown to Christmas, </u>by Scholastic.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPAP6tJ2-20D2DSZxkl5tjOWcxF3ZnJCqg0XoxCFTVcsMhk6v-KcnGJezEZIO_q2ocO2Ehg7SSCYNlO3FBJt1daWLphHNu2QJcuh1mFU1xas3TxHCrN_6702WsijM2duZy1MfDxTkJIAcu/s1600/books.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPAP6tJ2-20D2DSZxkl5tjOWcxF3ZnJCqg0XoxCFTVcsMhk6v-KcnGJezEZIO_q2ocO2Ehg7SSCYNlO3FBJt1daWLphHNu2QJcuh1mFU1xas3TxHCrN_6702WsijM2duZy1MfDxTkJIAcu/s1600/books.jpeg" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOo6RunDuaxFPkM4w4QQTX8nfCj1fPwsjF0quG4JWqDfO9t1SMSZuIxs0CsUw-hm67WI3Q_hnn_G7JySFenWBeeT5ZGP6-Fnu0j4Ulfdk96kra5m_pd_179Kz0HedlZOd8DHxXzL9tFoFk/s1600/DSC_0001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOo6RunDuaxFPkM4w4QQTX8nfCj1fPwsjF0quG4JWqDfO9t1SMSZuIxs0CsUw-hm67WI3Q_hnn_G7JySFenWBeeT5ZGP6-Fnu0j4Ulfdk96kra5m_pd_179Kz0HedlZOd8DHxXzL9tFoFk/s320/DSC_0001.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> For the Activities, I used Print Shop and used a blank business card template. I used a Christmas border and then printed them out and filled in each card with felt pen. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXK0Fxp7-rHv__h8RHyePLysVAbnv5FZU2CjNg8Lc5gmdPONsJDQgyks9EllyjnQW7CiIk5gLaOAEGFXpEnxyG5u2nneM1_57zyt66VS4NliDyjU3Kf1G7ukTE3v0VFfq6KLMfCWPBkYTd/s1600/DSC_0054.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXK0Fxp7-rHv__h8RHyePLysVAbnv5FZU2CjNg8Lc5gmdPONsJDQgyks9EllyjnQW7CiIk5gLaOAEGFXpEnxyG5u2nneM1_57zyt66VS4NliDyjU3Kf1G7ukTE3v0VFfq6KLMfCWPBkYTd/s320/DSC_0054.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>I went through our community calendar of events and our playgroup calendar and used some of those activities to fill the calendar. Then I used some of the ideas from sites listed above and some I came up with. So, each day, my son opens the pocket and discovers the days activity.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRmwnnuZeez1gVBbD04OY0X_Te-xFbbIaRotp-pfBGiohnTaC0RtEomU_Ay4ztSpZ4LXzG3GJ0nLEApCLdlDnIDfZhi5VmZDCKS4kE6q1-99ow8foaqrVp_sZRGwfHI_Dyzi-5lIkboeUd/s1600/DSC_0005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRmwnnuZeez1gVBbD04OY0X_Te-xFbbIaRotp-pfBGiohnTaC0RtEomU_Ay4ztSpZ4LXzG3GJ0nLEApCLdlDnIDfZhi5VmZDCKS4kE6q1-99ow8foaqrVp_sZRGwfHI_Dyzi-5lIkboeUd/s320/DSC_0005.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Then at dinner each night, we light our Advent wreath (attached are the Advent prayers) and listen to "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel".<br />

At night we read Christmas books, and our daily "Count down to Christmas" page. <br />
That's our little Christmas tradition around our house. What do you do?<br />
Enjoy this blessed season!<br />

My little girl has reflux, and I believe some other tummy issues going on. I literally have to hold her most of the day. It has been hard. One would think pajama projects would be easier since I am in my pajamas pretty much all day, but I am doing good to brush my hair and do laundry. It has gotten very "real" for me. Anyway, when I get projects in with my poor neglected son, I usually have her in my arms, so grabbing the camera is difficult. So, bear with me during this phase that will hopefully be over SOON!<br />
<br />
About 4 weeks ago my son started getting very interested in the solar system... VERY interested. I found a YouTube video to teach him more about the planets...<br />
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ-qLUIj_A0">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZ-qLUIj_A0</a><br />
It is an awesome video, that has really taught him so much... more than I ever knew about the solar system! He has the whole song memorized, sings it often around the house, and draws planets and talks about them to anyone that will listen. Lately, he has also been into making books. Well, he has since made about 4 solar system books. One was based on the video above, using the words from the song created by "KIDsTV123". (They have other great catchy songs too!) <br />
So, we wrote down the words to the song, and found some planet printables online. (you can just google images for "planet worksheets"). Then we just used glue, staples, construction paper, crayons, and so on to create the book. <br />

One of the books, he colored the planets and then sounded out and wrote the names of the planets by himself. I was super proud of this book, as was he. All of his solar system books are a work in progress... he takes them to his desk and "works" on them, by adding things. We have read them so many times that they are showing real wear. I am so happy that he loves them so much and can take ownership of his work! <br />

My boy is UBER OBSESSED with Cars (cars 1, not cars 2- which makes it really hard to find the toys he wants to play with, since its only cars 2 out in the stores- but I digress...). I have noticed he is pretty interested in counting, and is pretty good with numbers, especially if they are on cars (there is no doubt he will recognize "95" every time it is shown to him, b/c it is Lightening McQueen's number). His ability to recognize numbers that he identifies with toys got me to thinking about playing number games with his "race cars". For a girl, this game could be done with cars as well, or with something they love, like barbies, even (see below for details). <br />
I decided to work on counting by 10's to 100. I asked him to pick out 10 of his favorite cars. While he was doing that, I found small stickers (actually small price tags for a garage sale) and numbered each sticker 10-100 by 10s. Then I took post it notes and did the same. I made a circle out of the post its and told him to put his cars inside the circle where they would be on a "track".<br />

Darling son back to mom, "i don't know, i guess because the dog ate the cheetos." </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Yeah, right. Well, somehow kids are naturals at one type of story telling, but need a little work telling a story with a real plot. They will spend many years in school learning the building blocks used to writing a successful story. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">In our house, we use pictures we draw or create as "story starters". Story starters give the child something to describe and write about. Preschool age is a great age to introduce this method to future writers because they are so creative, and their minds are not limited about what is true or false. Ask a second grader to "write a story" and you are likely to get "I don't know what to write about" as a response. Ask a preschooler to tell you about their picture and its hard to stop them. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">As you will see in the examples below, we started with a picture. After the artwork was dry, I asked my son what the picture was about, and told him I would write his words. I was careful not to put words in his mouth, and not to correct any of his mistakes. I wrote exactly as he spoke. Then I read it back to him. Kids like to hear what they have said repeated to them. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCFfU_KQZDYZMk8tkHTlB0y__B3viJ7V5ToLk-S8Ctbg7ouJWiYOHf-561m8R7VDWTIKmflZr61JjxIi6nTqEyfR8CZWY25tE-hfXXPurfmoR3zuUFV7BpUr1o480zpnDzW9U7W9denORj/s1600/DSC_0044.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhCFfU_KQZDYZMk8tkHTlB0y__B3viJ7V5ToLk-S8Ctbg7ouJWiYOHf-561m8R7VDWTIKmflZr61JjxIi6nTqEyfR8CZWY25tE-hfXXPurfmoR3zuUFV7BpUr1o480zpnDzW9U7W9denORj/s320/DSC_0044.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> As you can see... these stories lack a plot, and they ramble. They sure are cute little bits of his mind though, and I am so glad that I have in writing his exact thoughts at this age. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWY5X3krKBaeoWAWojcHf350Z61CVb4ipV4VF5RNvoLUk5pv5TKQV2YiiUjy8FX0mBYgoj_d3W_LcyuQ0k-WwP0gTNeLNLkbJto1_4Zb7pC8uCimxMvKI8DGNmJ2_PQEb-WiexC0x3bxLa/s1600/DSC_0045.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWY5X3krKBaeoWAWojcHf350Z61CVb4ipV4VF5RNvoLUk5pv5TKQV2YiiUjy8FX0mBYgoj_d3W_LcyuQ0k-WwP0gTNeLNLkbJto1_4Zb7pC8uCimxMvKI8DGNmJ2_PQEb-WiexC0x3bxLa/s320/DSC_0045.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> Over time, with age and lots of practice, a child hearing their story read back to them will begin to recognize their writing mistakes. They will hear the run on sentences, or the lack of flow, or that it just doesn't make sense the way they stated it. (This is not something that needs to be pointed out to them. We want to encourage them by getting excited about their stories and not critique them.) Hearing it read aloud will make them better future writers. <br />

Its time to do something GOOD... REALLY GOOD... and Pajama Projects needs your help to pull it off!<br />
Pajama Projects is hosting a PAJAMA DRIVE to give a pair of new pajamas and a new book to children in need. Pajama Program, a 501-C3 charitable organization, has located 2 shelters for Pajama Projects to send aid to. These shelters take in children in need from desperate situations. Many of those children have <i>nothing</i> of their own, and have seen much harder times than anyone deserves. Wouldn't it be great for those children to have something that is <i>theirs</i> to bring them comfort at bedtime? <br />
We are collecting new (they don't have to be expensive) pajamas (newborn to teen sizes) and a new book to go with each pair! Together, you and your child can pick out a pair of new pajamas and a book to send to Pajama Projects. I will deliver them to the shelters Pajama Program has chosen. Teaching our kids to look out for those in need is one of the GREATEST lessons we can ever teach! You can go to sleep with a full heart knowing you gave a child, who rarely gets one, a peaceful bedtime. What a blessing this charity is in the lives of those children.<br />

I described it as "matching" and "twins" - terms he can understand and is familiar with. To explore this new concept, we made a collage. <br />
Materials needed: paint, paper, paint brush, glue, scissors<br />
To begin, he picked his 3 paint colors, and then painted one full sheet of paper the color of his choice. This was to be the "background" of our piece of art. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLsmNCwUAhRCypwWyf675tCJ7IwcjWidvwHtCVNW0NK8H3KeHEy6T3OtFqO_i2r_RMPzTO5Egw4DU97RoHSPRditV3OwaLBS2UwQ1PH_Hb1mRrmo1X1RbfkHMMkiMVxA4Tw5yFZl9OEYAy/s1600/DSC_0044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLsmNCwUAhRCypwWyf675tCJ7IwcjWidvwHtCVNW0NK8H3KeHEy6T3OtFqO_i2r_RMPzTO5Egw4DU97RoHSPRditV3OwaLBS2UwQ1PH_Hb1mRrmo1X1RbfkHMMkiMVxA4Tw5yFZl9OEYAy/s320/DSC_0044.jpg" width="212" /></a></div>Then I took one piece of paper and folded it in half. We discussed how each page was the same, and that each half matched. I cut the paper in half. He used the remaining two colors and painted each of these pieces. At this point, I suggest letting them dry. (We did not, and things got messy :)<br />
We took the two smaller pieces and folded them in half (we did one lengthwise, to be tall and thin, and one widthwise, to be short and wide). Then he used a pen to draw a design along the paper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhctqg6u2gu-vKvX4cezxIcw3O5QHGCDkzyTOZB0Dep_xzs7kSa4tWg1iuRsWKScgcf1wyW4_tkoNUma0yTFNNgQSU2D0DATY7ZTGA83OJUZcDRsPAc3M14eStDdMWCns4hOrS21AZeSNZ3/s1600/DSC_0050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhctqg6u2gu-vKvX4cezxIcw3O5QHGCDkzyTOZB0Dep_xzs7kSa4tWg1iuRsWKScgcf1wyW4_tkoNUma0yTFNNgQSU2D0DATY7ZTGA83OJUZcDRsPAc3M14eStDdMWCns4hOrS21AZeSNZ3/s320/DSC_0050.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>This would be our outline to cut along. I did the cutting. Then we unfolded the piece together to see what shape we made. <br />

First, let me thank you all, so much, for hanging with me throughout this lazy and long pregnancy! We are proud to announce we welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the mix on July 23rd. We are so blessed! I think I am now at the point, where I can begin working on posting our pajama projects again, and hope you will have fun reading about our early morning adventures!<br />
Dodson woke up the other morning quite inquisitive about what specific animals eat. I am not sure what sparked this interest, but I recognized this as a great learning opportunity! He would name an animal that he wanted to know more about, and together, we would look up facts about its eating habits on the computer. We decided we would make a book with pictures of the animals, and their diet. <br />
Since Dodson is learning to read, we used short phrases that he would easily be able to master and memorize. He quickly did just that, and was able to "read" the book back to me once it was complete. This gave him confidence in his reading ability, helped him flex his memory muscles, and learn about something he was genuinely interested in. <br />

We have been doing stuff, but i have been quite slack about documenting. Today, for flag day, we talked about flags, and the US flag. We made a very simple American flag, using a star punch on blue paper, and red dot / bingo paint for the red stripes on white background paper. I do not think we actually got the correct amount of stripes or stars though, but he got the colors right ;)<br />
We also decided to make a "Dodson flag" - where he could use stickers and symbols to represent himself. He was in charge, but I did most of the cutting and placing - which is the way he wanted it. When we were done, we hung it on his door. Then we looked at different state flags and discussed the colors and pictures on them...<br />

I mean, he loves it intensely. He has always been into pirate play, but this cute show has brought it to the point of obsession. <br />
We recently took a trip to IKEA (the closest one is FIVE hours away- sad) anyway, we came home with plenty 'o boxes. My husband mentioned how the pieces might make a cool fort or ship, and the seed was planted...<br />
While this project was not so educational, it was FUN! We woke up and got together our supplies...<br />
drop cloth, paint, boxes, brushes, packing tape, double sided foam tape and our best pirate attitude :)<br />

Notice in the collage below ... He said he needed to look at his map to get the directions on what to do first :)<br />

We have loved playing with this great new card game that Nana gave us. It is a game made by Hallmark, and can be found at Hallmark stores. I am not sure what the <i>actual</i> directions are, or how you are <i>really</i> supposed to play it, but we have made up our own way of making it into a fun math lesson. <br />
We put one of each number in numerical order, 1-10 in a line to start. During this process, I help or challenge him by asking questions like, "here's 7 what number comes before it, or what is a number that is greater/bigger than it?"<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHyW2CylEoi6E-jAUxLYgx6pv5gEhOhV-I422-3JJQrrHZq24kxyfEZGD1dHq9f4oLGG2pPzz6AQXsXpqqrf54dGZdyhQbBFQ4C9w0ho_o4HIFm6Kmu5dzL_ZPcgaDQjZq7M6XcOEkj3yC/s1600/DSC_0082.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHyW2CylEoi6E-jAUxLYgx6pv5gEhOhV-I422-3JJQrrHZq24kxyfEZGD1dHq9f4oLGG2pPzz6AQXsXpqqrf54dGZdyhQbBFQ4C9w0ho_o4HIFm6Kmu5dzL_ZPcgaDQjZq7M6XcOEkj3yC/s320/DSC_0082.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><br />
Once we have the number line in place, we put all remaining cards in a stack. I flip a card and we both yell the number as fast as we can, then he places it in the right pile.<br />

</div><br />
When he tires of that, which takes quite a while, we count out items (pennies, beads, sequins, beans...) to give a tangible way to experience the numbers. Doing this often helps children to "visualize" the numbers better, and attribute worth to each number. After giving worth to each number in the number line, we clear away all the beads, and I count out a certain amount, then he uses a paint stirrer (stick, or whatever will work) to match the pile of beads to its correct number, as seen in picture below.<br />

Well, I got pregnant, that's what! This pregnancy has wiped me out, and I have felt as if I was doing good just getting out of bed for quite a while. I'm 1/2 through right now, and feeling better. I plan to get back to reporting the fun little projects my son and I do together now that my energy is coming back. Thanks for being loyal, and sticking by me through my inconsistent posting. <br />
Yesterday morning, we worked on blends and rhymes using his favorite subject... Dinosaurs. We just finished Mardi Gras season here, so parades are all the rage, and are quite on his mind. So, we decided to create our own book about a dinosaur parade. Usually he can come up with quite the entertaining story, but he kept talking about the sounds made by dinosaurs... roar, stomp & chomp ("st" blend beginning sound, and the "ch" blend beginning sound) and we added thump and bump (both rhying "ump" words, thump also containing the "th" blend). This created a very simple word book.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNQtaq2nHYH3zJjdA9j4EznLtUHfkeUGCnVThu7f2K81dUSAeAVH8cvFvuUikJDLc7ZHxmJHH450SG8w68ud4T3QFxljGibt7XMF0MNC2woPV6SBd9aFkDd763k7_wCyuz0NTTE6yTL-82/s1600/DSC_0089.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNQtaq2nHYH3zJjdA9j4EznLtUHfkeUGCnVThu7f2K81dUSAeAVH8cvFvuUikJDLc7ZHxmJHH450SG8w68ud4T3QFxljGibt7XMF0MNC2woPV6SBd9aFkDd763k7_wCyuz0NTTE6yTL-82/s320/DSC_0089.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
I first wrote these words out on word strips. He helped me sound them out as I wrote them. Then I pulled out some T-Rex card stock that I had on hand and he painted each a different color with water colors. After they dried, we went back to work, reviewing our words, and writing them on the dinosaur. <br />
Then we punched holes and assembled the book. <br />

While making this Turkey, we practiced: sequencing & patterns, letter recognition, letter sounds, counting, pasting, sorting, and word spacing.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">I started by cutting out a white circle (wish I had a brown paper bag on hand...tons of plastic bags, but no paper) and then drawing a turkey neck and face. My son helped me cut out and paste the turkey's "wattle". We laughed about the name of the appendage. I cut out 16 colored feathers while he colored on the back of the turkey. We also came up with a pattern for the feathers... we chose the rainbow pattern </div><div style="text-align: center;">(Good 'ole Roy-G) </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkKPYrYXfgkVOMjabXIcKiNTHQ59SOQJfYrsDcoIWof2toWpzDuc1Ikdjw3YEohqCtkEsfr2CVcTgBh-ox7Uh7ileCZRvCVcMGLBodjPVVJZncAnNj4yBLTu-yQD2-oJMzT93tRrFy-Bxa/s1600/DSC_0458.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkKPYrYXfgkVOMjabXIcKiNTHQ59SOQJfYrsDcoIWof2toWpzDuc1Ikdjw3YEohqCtkEsfr2CVcTgBh-ox7Uh7ileCZRvCVcMGLBodjPVVJZncAnNj4yBLTu-yQD2-oJMzT93tRrFy-Bxa/s320/DSC_0458.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGwScRc-vvRVORzqcehrfq2mOyNrZ7I-l7bOQls258rJ_lQqIVvr8ErM93XNL0Vmbf_ofmuoJKPRPmdplQyDfvrKn7zmT0ffxQwtaOswv7O75Z7wHT4hVNgCYju8P2fH7SBbCurN2x_THA/s1600/DSC_0460.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGwScRc-vvRVORzqcehrfq2mOyNrZ7I-l7bOQls258rJ_lQqIVvr8ErM93XNL0Vmbf_ofmuoJKPRPmdplQyDfvrKn7zmT0ffxQwtaOswv7O75Z7wHT4hVNgCYju8P2fH7SBbCurN2x_THA/s320/DSC_0460.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"> He loved lining them up in a line, and worked hard to make them straight. He took great pride in his rainbow line. While he was doing this I prompted him to find the next feather in our sequence by repeating the pattern aloud. He does a great job with this. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Then I wrote our Thanksgiving message "Thanks Be to God" and he said "oh no, mommy, this one is missing its letter!" (see him pointing to the red feather below, so glad I caught that cute moment) He was quite concerned. I showed him that if we removed the blank feathers, the whole meaning would change ( it would be thanksbetoGod- which I said really fast) :)</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaTw6SgzeiaOd1XUliLcHOoE548s0oUttiwrhyphenhyphenMA6a_YghuoCt4D6ShrMyQWz4poZphh5GoTHpwogXt5geEi45bmB8XU3Ld95HABHFRNVSMQWaBTzEW_yflNkxhS5vU1TXeHASlfH5uj7B/s1600/DSC_0465.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaTw6SgzeiaOd1XUliLcHOoE548s0oUttiwrhyphenhyphenMA6a_YghuoCt4D6ShrMyQWz4poZphh5GoTHpwogXt5geEi45bmB8XU3Ld95HABHFRNVSMQWaBTzEW_yflNkxhS5vU1TXeHASlfH5uj7B/s320/DSC_0465.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Once we talked about our message, I decided to hide the feathers around our den for him to find. The lack of responses made me realize that most of you, my readers, aren't sitting at the computer like me in the morning :) Most moms I know get going about their day asap, and use "nap time" to do housework. Some days I do this as well, but most days this is how it goes around our house...<br />
When I wake up in the morning I need a wee bit of time after I make lunches, to unwind my mind and prep for my day- and drink the large amount of coffee that keeps me going. I check email during this time, read a few mom blogs, think about my pajama project, what will become of my day, I pray and I do some of my housework. During this time, Dodson usually watches some Umizoomi and some Little Einsteins and plays in his playroom. I play on and off with him in this time, too.<br />
<br />
I've been trying to organize my housework into daily, weekly and monthly tasks. I wanted to share with you how I'm trying to organize my weekly tasks (yep... I do them in my pj's), not because you need help organizing, but because I hope you will respond and share how you handle your housework and still are an active parent at the same time!<br />
<br />
As for my daily tasks, when I wake up, I...<br />
1) make lunch for my husband, feed him and get him out the door<br />
2) drink my coffee and take a bit of time for myself<br />
3) start the daily laundry<br />
4) make beds<br />
5) unload dishes & wipe down kitchen counters<br />
6) pajama project<br />
7) get dressed!!!<br />
8) get out of the house while its clean!<br />
<br />
There are also those tasks that don't need to be done daily, but should be done often, this is how I sort those...<br />
I know this is TOTALLY dorky to do this, but it is how I remember to do everything that needs to be done in a house during a week...<br />
<u> Mondays: "Manage it Mondays</u>" = get together budget, meal plans, grocery list, sort through bills and make a grocery run<br />
<u>Tuesdays: "Tub and Toilet Tuesdays</u>"= scrub out the tubs and toilets :) such a LOVELY job<br />
<u>Wednesdays: "Wipe Down Wednesdays"</u> = I go to town with my clorox wipes and hit the tabletops, light switch covers, doors and door knobs, counters, bathroom counters, swiffer dust the blinds & window seals<br />
<u>Thursdays: "Transportation Thursdays"</u>= clean out the NASTY car (it is like a BOMB goes off in it) and restock all necessities (i keep some snacks, extra clothes in case of accidents, sunblock, wipes, hand gel, socks and shoes, books and some toys, first aid kit, stroller)<br />
<u>Fridays: "Fridge and Floor Fridays" </u> = clean out the fridge & throw away all the left overs that just sit there and never get eaten... sweep floors and vacuum the carpeted areas<br />
<u>Saturdays: "Swiffer and Steam Saturdays"</u>= swiffer the floors to remove dust, and then steam them!<br />
<u>Sunday: "Swap sheet Sundays"</u> = put some fresh sheets on the bed... but most of all, Sunday is Funday!<br />
<br />
How do YOU manage it all??? Then, how do you find time for yourself in the mix??? <br />

This was a super easy & cheap last min. costume that takes ZERO sewing skill. All you need is hot glue, felt and a blue shirt and pants. I purchased the Garanimals Wal-Mart shirt for and sweatpants for $7.00 total. I purchased red and yellow felt. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">To make the "logo" I simply folded the red in half and free handed the shape. Then I used the red as a pattern for the yellow and then went back and trimmed it a little around the edges to make it smaller than the red one. Then I decided to put a D for my little man, to make him feel special! He is pretty super, after all!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinnIVBShRw2waT_Kn1qFefApsrKUuzP7tYqL9BXOLrjG9Q7mK6Kqt_l7S1wiog6iTGn0O-XzNiprc2WTjFjiL11HjYHs0e1iPihbKe3wWY5WWUpj_LTIe2hzm3df45v6fHg3Ux9s9pAaw2/s1600/DSC_0406.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinnIVBShRw2waT_Kn1qFefApsrKUuzP7tYqL9BXOLrjG9Q7mK6Kqt_l7S1wiog6iTGn0O-XzNiprc2WTjFjiL11HjYHs0e1iPihbKe3wWY5WWUpj_LTIe2hzm3df45v6fHg3Ux9s9pAaw2/s1600/DSC_0406.jpg" width="212" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The "bloomers" were the hardest part, and all I did was double the red felt, laid the pants on top with the crotch of the pants at the fold. Then I cut up the next to the sides of the pants and cut across the top at the waist, and went back down the left side of the pants. So, when unfolded, I ended up with a large rectangle. Then I just angled the corners, up towards the pockets and glued in place. It doesn't quite match up on the sides, but I'm not worried about that. It know that its not perfect, nor does it need to be. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_uElGX22CEcDj4p2DmvYU0gjufsTESi1TEgNGAx859oAhoBtR3k_5u4-Zi5LYpCz8mHbjrbfD7PP-BUunKpXacXf9AW3zOIb9yJRma5QnIaJcM7Y5LKiQ1osJ7EUeO99h-jX-pA8hzz8u/s1600/DSC_0408.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_uElGX22CEcDj4p2DmvYU0gjufsTESi1TEgNGAx859oAhoBtR3k_5u4-Zi5LYpCz8mHbjrbfD7PP-BUunKpXacXf9AW3zOIb9yJRma5QnIaJcM7Y5LKiQ1osJ7EUeO99h-jX-pA8hzz8u/s320/DSC_0408.JPG" width="320" /></a></div> For the belt, I just cut a strip of yellow and glued it around the bottom of the shirt. <br />
And to do the cape, I folded the fabric in two and cut lengthwise with a taper. Then I hot glued it to the back top of the shirt. <br />
